Environmental Regulators Need to Clean Up Faulty Air Pollution Permits for Three of Texas's Dirtiest Coal- Fired Power Plants Owned by Luminant

October 24, 2011

EIP recently filed comments on air pollution permits for three of the dirtiest coal-fired power plants in Texas and the nation—Big Brown, Monticello, and Martin Lake Steam Electric Stations—all owned and operated by Dallas-based Luminant Generation Company (formerly TXU).  The comments urge the state of Texas and EPA to address weak and obtuse federal Clean Air Act “Title V” permits that allow excessive levels of dangerous air pollution and weak pollution monitoring.  The Big Brown, Monticello, and Martin Lake power plants, located in East Texas, have collectively violated the Clean Air Act tens of thousands of times over the past five years, and EIP encouraged Texas to add stronger safeguards to deter future violations.
