Maryland's proposed regulations are a significant step forward, and especially welcome in a state that is already paying the price for the careless disposal of fly ash, bottom ash, and other coal combustion waste. EIP urges the Department of the Environment to strengthen the proposed regulations by incorporating the findings and recommendations of a recent report issued by the National Research Council on the disposal of coal combustion waste, and setting clear standards that apply to all types of coal combustion waste.
