EIP Petitions EPA to Set Strict Emission Limits for a Major Source of Hazardous Air Pollutants in Maryland
Mar 5, 2009

On Friday, February 27, 2009, EIP petitioned the U.S. EPA to object to the Clean Air Act permit for the Luke Paper Company paper mill in Maryland.  The Clean Air Act permit for the Luke Paper Company paper mill, which emits over 1,000,000 pounds of hazardous air pollutants each year, does not include strict emission limits for hazardous air pollutants from its industrial boilers and fails to require stringent emissions monitoring for harmful particulate matter pollution in violation of the law.  The Clean Air Act authorizes citizens to petition the U.S. EPA to object to a permit issued by a state when the permit violates the Clean Air Act.
