EIP Director of Development
Duties, Qualifications, Key Competencies

EIP is seeking a Director of Development to implement annual/unrestricted giving initiatives (including major gifts) while overseeing EIP's extensive foundation relations program.


 

Duties will include, but will not be limited to


·        Foundation stewardship - Overseeing EIP's ongoing cycle of grant reports and renewals, and working with the Executive Director and key EIP staff to submit reports and proposals as needed.

·        Prospect research - finding new foundation and individual donor prospects that EIP can approach

·        Donor cultivation - helping the Executive Director, the Board of Directors, and key staff to create relationships with potential donors

·        Board relations- collaborating with EIP's Executive Director to ensure that Board members stay informed and active in the organization

·        Friends of EIP - launching EIP's "Friends of" group for major donors to the organization: ensuring that donor benefits are delivered to donors, managing the solicitation and re-solicitation process, marketing the group

·        Major gifts solicitation - supporting the Executive Director and Board members in solicitation of major gifts (providing research, materials on EIP, talking points, etc.) and making solicitations as needed

·        Managing annual donor solicitation mailings, which will take place several times per year

·          Key Competencies/Attributes:

·        Passion for the environment

·        Project management skills - manage multiple projects while meeting important deadlines and milestones

·        Solicitation skills - have experience in, and an enthusiasm for, solicitation of gifts

·        Lay leadership management - ability to build effective relationships with volunteer leadership

·        Research skills (including, web-based research)

·        Writing skills - write in a clear, concise, compelling way.  Preferably, the Director of Development will have foundation relations/grantwriting experience

Qualifications:

·        Bachelors degree, Masters (in environment, management, nonprofits, or related fields) preferred

·        4-6 years experience in non-profit fundraising, including either major gifts, annual campaign, or foundation relations (preferably a combination of these experiences)

·        Demonstrated familiarity with community of environmental funding sources is highly desirable

Environmental Integrity Project - Washington, D.C.

Job Title:  Law Clerk (Three Positions Available)

The Environmental Integrity Project (EIP) is seeking three law clerks for the summer 2008 semester to advance Clean Air Act and Clean Water Act protections at the federal, state, and local levels.  The clerks' duties will include research of environmental, administrative, and information-collecting statutes and regulations, real-time review of pollution permits and data, and production of legal memoranda and issue-focused reports.  Candidates with a background or coursework in environmental/administrative law and a demonstrated commitment to environmental protection are preferred.  The clerks will be supervised in part by Eric Schaeffer, former director of EPA's Office of Regulatory Enforcement, who now serves as the Director of EIP.

EIP is a nonprofit organization established in March of 2002 by former EPA enforcement attorneys to advocate for more effective enforcement of environmental laws.  The organization has three objectives:  (1) to provide objective analyses of how the failure to enforce or implement environmental laws increases pollution and affects the public's health; (2) to hold federal and state agencies, as well as individual corporations, accountable for failing to enforce or comply with environmental laws; and (3) to help local communities obtain the protection of environmental laws.  For more information, please visit our website at www.environmentalintegrity.org.

Qualifications:  Candidates should have completed at least one year of law school and have a strong interest in environmental advocacy.  The ideal candidate will have a background or coursework in environmental/administrative law and a demonstrated commitment to environmental protection.  Previous experience with the Clean Air Act and/or the Clean Water Act, developing or litigating cases, commenting on or challenging permits or rules, policy analysis, media outreach, and/or coalition building would also be helpful.  Candidates should be able to handle multiple tasks at once and work well with others, and must demonstrate strong writing and analytical skills.
